End of Madison Sub
Dont let the modern gates and welded rail fool you; here, a Union Pacific rail train is pulling up the former CNW SI Line across IL Route 143 in Edwardsville, IL, then known as the "UP Madison Sub." Just a few years earlier, the line was busier than ever, hosting UP re-routes following the meltdown of the UP/SP merger. Shortly after Halloween in 1998, the line finally fell silent after abandonment was pushed back several times due to detour traffic. Rail was removed from Madison, IL, to DeCamp, IL, and from Nilwood, IL, to Barr, IL. The line remains active from Barr to Nelson.
